The Boosters are helping families to set up several in-season training options–details below. Reach out to Jon Messeri (Messeri.j@gmail.com) or Dave Maitlin (dmaitlin@gmail.com) for assistance.
Fitness Training:
Both D&I and GameChanger are offering appropriate in-season training programs. These will include workouts with dedicated trainers for our players, at times that won’t conflict with baseball activities. Both training centers have begun to reach out to parents to determine interest and share options for interested players. In addition, Coach Muirhead is planning on conducting some preseason and in-season fitness training. These sessions are intended to be augment, not replace, individual fitness activities of the players. For example, a player may have one session a week at an outside gym and one with the team. At the team meeting on March 11th of players/parents/coaches, Coach Muirhead will provide more detail on his plans. GameChanger is planning on having a once a week workout on Sundays mid-day and D&I can offer small group workouts. If you are not connected with either GameChanger or D&I we are happy to share their contact info.
Preseason Pitching Training:
A weekend ago about 14 players(pitchers) participated in a 2 hour pitching clinic led by Nate Roe, pitching Instructor and former pitcher for the Somerset Patriots. Nate comes highly recommended from one of our Cougar parents and also is known to many folks who frequent DBat. Nate is a huge supporter of high school baseball and he contributed his time free of charge for the clinic. Invitations were made directly to pitchers of all grades from Coach Muirhead.
The 2 hour clinic was a holistic view of pitching included warm-ups, drills and instruction. Positive feedback was received with requests from players and parents to see if we can engage Nate to provide additional training. After discussing options around how best to structure the training, we have come up with the following taking into consideration- commencing after the rosters are set, timing of team practices, Nate’s availability and the goal to help prepare interested members of the pitching staff for the upcoming season in a focused group setting.
– The training will include pitching instruction, best practices for arm care before and after pitching, situation drills and game strategy. Since this is a group training the instructional component will have some 1 on 1 but not at the same level of individual lessons.
– Timing (4) consecutive weekly sessions – 3 Saturdays and one Sunday beginning March 14th thru April 4th 8-10 AM at CHS.
– Size – To make the training effective we are capping the size to 15 roster pitchers. If there is interest above 15 then we will figure something out to handle the larger number of players.
– Cost is $100, which averages out to $25 per 2 hour session. Payment is due after roster selections are made..
Please note the training is in addition to the regularly scheduled team practices on Saturdays, Coach Muirhead will take into consideration players who participate in the training when structuring the Saturday practices.
This is an optional activity and not meant to replace individual pitching training that players may already be engaged with. Like all Boosters programs, please reach out to a board member relating to any financial concerns affecting participation.
In order secure Nate’s time and the gym we do need to know if your son is interested in participating by Thursday March 5th.
