Help Us Plan Info Sessions re: College Baseball

Jan 4, 2021
Based upon direct feedback and informal conversations, there is a high level of interest by the players for the  potential of playing college baseball.   This winter we plan to deliver 2-3 virtual meetings/information sessions on the process, the reality, and actions by grade that can be taken in preparation for pursuing and recruitment to play baseball in college.  In addition to external and alumni resources we have identified, if you have experience in the college recruitment process and/or would like to share and help shape our efforts, please reach out directly to Jon Messeri (Messeri.j@gmail.com) to participate in the planning and execution of these activities.

Skills Training ZOOM Overview this Sunday at 8 PM

Jan 4, 2021

We are very excited about this year’s Skills Training, as we will be working from a larger dedicated location at Centercourt’s bubble and workout facility and with an expanded coaching staff.  For the 8 training sessions, we will have 9-10 coaches, approx a 5:1 ratio.  In preparation for the training, we have scheduled a pre-training virtual meeting for players and parents this upcoming Sunday.

Please reserve the date: Jan 10th 8-9 PM Group Zoom for players and parents.   Invite with Zoom Link to follow.

Topics Include:

– Introduction  of the Coaching Staff and the Skills Training Program

– COVID-19 safety protocols

– Logistics

– Q&A

The call will be led by Tony Negrin, Centercourt’s Director of Baseball Operations, with support from Coach Muirhead. Parents, please make every effort to attend with your player, as the information reviewed will ensure that we maximize the training time, review COVID-19 safety rules and answer questions in advance of the start of the training.

Nov 20, 2020

Thank you for filling out the final survey on off-season training. We received responses from almost every returning family and most of the interested freshman families and were able to secure the pricing concessions dedicated sessions we requested.

Almost all who responded selected skills and with a high rate of strength and conditioning participation as well. For families who selected D&I, please read that section carefully as there have been some changes on how the gym plans to deliver the training.

Given the increase in COVID-19 rates, we have been in direct contact with Centercourt senior management and both gym owners concerning the latest directives from the State and impact on their operations.  As of now, the directives have not affected any of these facilities.  We did modify the start dates and schedules from the original information sent to create some additional days after the holidays to reduce potential for exposure and also for families traveling that may be quarantining.  Included below are the links to each facility’s COVID protocols. Their COVID related business practices are included in the signup links. We will continue to share any updated information.  Below are details for each of the offerings and the links for sign-up.

SKILLS TRAINING

LOCATION:  Centercourt, 65 Columbia Road, Morristown

The biggest difference from last year is that the skills training will be at Centercourt in Morristown.  Millburn Sports Academy, where we were last year, is being sold so it is unavailable to us.  The move to Centercourt will enhance the skills training and provide more space to keep the players spaced apart and in smaller groups.  We’ll have access to two buildings, dedicated for our players only; they are a 32,000 sq ft air supported dome with a turf field that fits two 60-90’ baseball infields and another building that has hitting tunnels and multiple pitchers mounds.  Due to NJSIAA rules coaches from outside the CHS baseball program need to work with the players during the off-season. Tony Negrin, a Varsity Coach at Delbarton and Centercourt’s Director of Player Services and Coaching, will be responsible for the design and execution of the Skills Training program. The coaching staff at Centercourt are all former college baseball players with experience coaching club baseball at the high school age level.  We do wish Centercourt were closer to Maplewood, however it is the closest and largest facility available for baseball in the area.

DATES and TIMES:
  • Fridays 4-6 pm 2 hours of training and access for warming up prior to start.
  • Eight weeks January 15 – March 12, 2021 (excluding President’s weekend February 12)

COVID SAFETY:
Access to two buildings will allow us to separate the players into two groups.  In addition, the Dome is air supported and porous; they require constant ventilation and higher levels of airflow to operate the structure.

Centercourt COVID-19 plan’s have been developed with their partner St Barnabas Medical Center. The Centercourt COVID-19 policy can be found herehttps://centercourtacademy.com/img/Centercourt-COVID-19-Guidelines.pdf

Dedicated Baseball-Focused Small-Group Training Sessions for our players
Info from D&I:
Based on the success participants had during our training program last year, we would like to offer a similar training program this off-season. Programming will be subjected to restrictions due to Covid-19. Click here to view our Covid-19 protocol.
Once your son is registered to train with us, a certified trainer will be present at ALL times to oversee training sessions. Each athlete will be given access to his sheets on Google drive, where they will be held accountable for maintaining training records. The program will focus on strength and power development for sports performance. Through the continued development of these components of their fitness, performance on the field will be positively affected and chances of injury significantly reduced.

Players now have a choice of training on either (a) Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm or (b) Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. An optional third day can be added. Training is twelve weeks beginning December 14th and running through the first week of March. A maximum of eight players can register for each session for a total of sixteen players. These training sessions will take place after D&I is closed to the public so that our group will have the entire gym to themselves.  There is an early bird special 10% off for those who register by Dec. 1.

Space is limited, so sign up now. To register please call the gym directly at 973-821-5757 or email them at clientservices@dandifitness.com.  The website is www.dandifitness.com .

(For those interested, additional training sessions can be added at the prior to the start or end of the program)
IMPORTANT MESSAGE ON OPTIONAL PARTICIPATION:
These sessions are organized by the CHS Baseball Boosters, not the CHS Baseball coaching staff.  It is also important to note that engaging in these workouts does not mean that your son has made or will make or play on the Cougar baseball team this spring. Workout participation has no impact on roster decisions or playing time.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Please know that no one will be excluded from any of these workouts due to financial need. Scholarship support is available.  Please contact a member of the Boosters Board to discuss.

Online Store Open through 11/15 with NEW items!

Nov 3, 2020
In time for the holidays, we are opening the Cougar Baseball Online store, featuring new items and all items with the updated logo!!!

As a reminder, given the Pandemic, we were not able to do our regular fundraising activities – Merch Card, Spring Auction and now the Fall Elks Club event. Therefore, we are opening the store for purchases both this Fall and again when season begins in 2021.

Selling merchandise is not a big fundraiser for the program in regards to money raised, but we make a few dollars (approximately $3-$4) per item, depending on the item’s cost.  We intentionally do not want to make costs prohibitive, but every dollar raised helps the program!

A few items that were added to the store:
  • Women’s Zip Sweatshirt (we understand it to be true to size)
  • PJ’s (not a bad item for virtual school)
  • Short Sleeve Polo (We understand from other programs, the polo shirt was popular for college visits!)

Here is the link to purchase TODAY through NOVEMBER 15!!

Please reach out to Lauren Rutkin with any questions you may have.

Complete the off-season training form by NOV 5

Oct 31, 2020
Please check your e-mail for all the details about our winter off-season training offerings. In order to secure the timing for the workouts at the facilities and the pricing concessions, we do need families to complete the survey of confirmed interest by November 5th.
In addition, we will reach out to the incoming freshman families directly to provide more information on the offerings. In regard to COVID-19 protocols, each facility has provided a link to review their COVID-19 process and procedures (see the e-mail for details). We understand and respect, especially during COVID-19, that participation is a personal and family decision.
If you have any questions please reach out to Dave Maitlin at dmaitlin@gmail.com or 917-584-1796 or Jon Messeri at messeri.j@gmail.com or 917-273-6728.
Thank you and be well.
